Annotation
Why, despite the best of intentions and often the investment of significant resources, do peace rocesses so often fail to lead to a consolidated peace after civil war? Even if there is not a full-scale resumption of war, violence, insecurity, and instability pervade many postwar societies. In this book I investigate this puzzle, focusing particularly on the way the international community engages in resolving such wars and what it is about the dominant approach to peace processes that means they often lead ti situations where pressures for peace and those for war are locked in a staelmate, with neither fully able to capture the society at hand.
